I love this one Mona and will light a candle for your Father also - tomorrow (28th) is the anniversary of my own Dad's passing two years ago, and Monday would have been his Birthday. Thinking of you and your Dad xx
Thanks Karen. I'm so sorry to know that you lost your Dad also, and I will light one for him as well. Mine passed in April '07, and his birthday was March 18.
What a beauty, Mona. So many subtle color changes. Nice highlights on the leaves. A beautiful tribute to your Dad. Thanks for sharing your process on this.
I agree you have created a beautiful tribute to your dad Mona. You're doing great with your egg tempera work. There's a real sense of solidity and actual form that doesn't compromise the fragile delicacy of the subject.
What an absolutely beautiful way to create a remembrance. I haven't physically "lost" a parent, but with alzheimers, you loose them once, and then again. I have lost my mom for the "first" time, so I do understand a loss of a parent, at least somewhat. Your painting rememberance makes me think of my piano playing- now each time I play I always think of and thank my mom. You are lucky to have had a grandma to guide you with the art (as I am in a good and stubborn mom!) I never had anyone with the art so found it late in life (painting). As always your painting gives one nothing but pleasure in viewing. Your flowers are always so exquisite.
I thought I'd commented here already...I ooooh'd and ahhhh'd. This is a lovely piece Mona, and I'm sure your dad is so honored. My belief is that he does know you are one of the world's top artists, and is so proud of you. Heaven on Earth is a beautiful title.
Hi Mona, I just found your blog and Love it! Your rose is simply beautiful, I don't know if I could ever paint such detail so small. When my mom died I did a portrait of her in conte carbon pencil and it was so very emotional to work through, but turned out to be a kind of therapy. Great job!
All of your Portraiture is so beautifully done-exquisitely detailed work. You have mastered Egg Tempera, something I haven't been able to do, as much as I love it. You mentioned you studied at Prosopon. Another I studied egg tempera with is Koo Schadler. All the best to you. Happy Easter!

A really beautiful painting Mona, and love what you have done with the mounts and frame. A lovely tribute to your dad as well.

Great choice with the painted mats too!
This is exquisite, Mona.
Vern, Alex, Wes & Rachelle, and Ed, thanks so much.
Wes, I do enjoy trying flowers in egg tempera, and thanks for how you see those qualities in my work.

Thanks Carol for your thoughtful comment. It must be so tough indeed to go through the losses of Alzheimer's with a parent.
