My Entry for the 5th World Federation Exhibit in Moscow

"After the Davidson College Graduation", 4 9/16" x 3", egg tempera on panel, (reframed to meet frame size parameters)

Here is the entry I submitted for the 5th World Federation of Miniaturists Exhibition which is slated to take place in the Gallery of the Russian Academy of Art in Moscow, Russia in September of this year. To enter this painting required me to reframe it in order to meet the stringent frame size limit.

It actually wound up to be my most difficult framing job ever, which entailed wiring the frame vertically from the inside! The hand-painted matt is a softer color of coral than the digital picture conveys, and the silver-gilded frame has a warm feeling with threads of gold in it.

Hi Mona. This is such a beautiful work. Sorry you had such a difficult time re-framing it. The frame looks very nice. Good luck in the show!! Wonder if they will tell us if we are in after judging it?

Thanks Barbara. I believe there is notification by MASF, but I can't recall the details, partly because the World show only happens every four years.

This one has always been a favourite of mine Mona (this one and the little girl on the piano), so I really hope she does so well at the exhibition - I have everything crossed for you!!! :)

It looks absolutely beautiful, Mona! I never thought of painting matts, but it's a great idea.

Thanks Akiko. I painted the matt in this instance even though I had a matt board in this color, because the matt felt tight due to the size restrictions. Just being able to paint the lip (the slanted cut edge) of the matt too, helped it to feel wider. I also tried a white matt and a black matt, but the red which I had used in the previous framing scenario still felt like the best solution for the silver frame.
